Christmas 2014

It sure doesn't feel like Christmas in New Jersey this year. It was so warm that we went on a hike today. The girls are all home and it is great to have a full house for a few days.

Anna is still living in London and working at The Science Museum where she does the behind the scenes work of creating exhibits. Eva lives in Montclair, NJ and works in New York at Barkley Kalpak Agency. She helps to create events for corporate clients. Maria lives in Rochester, NY where she is doing freelance graphic design and working at other jobs to make ends meet. Monika is working as a Polish interpreter for the Superior Court of NJ, and I'm working for myself, keeping computer networks running and programming websites like this one.

This summer we went to Glacier National Park. We flew to Portland, OR and drove to Mount Hood where we spent the first night at the Timberline Lodge.

From there we drove through Idaho to Montana. We spent two days on the west side of Glacier, and then we grove to the east side and spent two days there.

Each day would be a short drive into the park, and then a few hours of hiking. We would come back in the evening, cook dinner, enjoy a fire if we were allowed, and then get up in the morning and do it all over again.

In the fall my college class had its 30th reunion. Monika and I drove up to Syracuse for a long weekend. I played "DJ" at the party, and we drove to Letchworth State Park in NY and had a great time seeing the foliage. We stopped to see if Phil the Groundhog was home in Punxsutawney, PA but we just found an empty stump.

For many years I have been associated with a living history group that goes to air shows to educate people about the lives of the US Army flyers of WWII. Ten years ago the group was contacted by Laura Hillenbrand as she started to write her best selling book "Unbroken". With the permission of the group, I paid Laura a visit to show her some of the items in our collection. This information was used to help her write the book. Today the film "Unbroken" opens in theatres. With the interest in the topic, the New York Times contacted me as they were writing an article about her. Be sure to read the story, and see the film. The book is an amazing piece of work so I am sure the film will be as well.

We hope you and your family has a happy holiday season, and we wish you the best in the coming year. Enjoy your time together and be sure to enjoy some of the beautiful places on the planet with people you like.
Our family believes that it is best cure for all the problems of the world.
